If you’re trying to set up FlowCrypt on a device but still have another device where you can read encrypted emails, use that device to go to FlowCrypt Settings ⮕ Security ⮕ Change passphrase.
This allows you to set a new passphrase without knowing the previous one, as long as the key is already unlocked on that device. After changing it, you can use the new passphrase when setting up FlowCrypt on another device.
If you can no longer read encrypted emails on any device because the passphrase is lost, the previously encrypted emails cannot be recovered.
To start fresh:
- Open Gmail and search for “Your FlowCrypt Backup”.
- Delete the backup email and also remove it from the Trash folder.
- Open FlowCrypt Settings ⮕ Additional Settings ⮕ Experimental ⮕ Reset {your-account-here} and set it up again.
- Set up FlowCrypt again after the reset, creating a new key and passphrase.
After resetting, FlowCrypt will no longer find your old backup and will let you create a new key and passphrase for encrypting future emails.
