How do we install and use the software?
I have taken a look at the information provided on your website but having no background in tech I had a difficult time understanding how your software works in practice, particularly how the encryption is set up and how it works in daily operations. More specifically, is it a program that has to be installed on every device that wants to access encrypted data? Is it a separate program or something like an add-on to Google Chrome?
It’s server-side software. You may deploy the software to a server, running either on your premises or in the cloud. This means that no changes are required on user workstations, and no separate programs or add-ons are needed. You may also use it as a SAAS solution and not worry about maintaining servers, as everything is managed by us.
Is it a program that is installed once and then just runs as a background process? Or do people need to login every time they want to access encrypted data?
As long as the server is running, no other regular actions are required by users. The only requirement is regular maintenance of the server by a systems administrator or IT staff at your organization.
Does it run an any operating system? Our devices use Windows 10 and Chrome OS
On the server side, it’s optimized for a Linux server but can run on Windows servers as well. User workstations can have any operating system.
Is it possible to share an entire folder in Google Drive for encrypted files?
Yes, it’s possible to share an unencrypted folder in Google Drive with users who need access to encrypted files. Afterwards, users with access to the shared folder can encrypt and upload files. It’s important to note that folders themselves can’t be encrypted.
Having a shared folder would be helpful for those who need to frequently share documents with a defined number of users who have access to the folder.
Can a user outside of the organization decrypt/encrypt files shared by someone inside the organization?
Yes, you can do so as long as you can authenticate these external users. You may authenticate them with Google or any other Identity Provider (IdP) they might be using.
Are files uploaded to Google Drive password-protected or encrypted?
Files uploaded to Google Drive will be encrypted, and only users with whom you have shared access will be able to decrypt them. The content is encrypted in the client’s browser before any data is transmitted to Google servers. Therefore, even Google can’t access your encryption keys or decrypt your data.
Please note that the file should still be created or uploaded using either the “create encrypted blank document” option or the “encrypt and upload file” option since encryption isn’t an automatic default procedure for file uploads.
